Pinup photography is a lot of fun. When I shoot it, I aim to have my subject look sexy as well as strong, confident, powerful, and seductive. All of those in varying degrees depending on the specific mood of the shoot. I also aim to bring out the unique beauty in each of my subjects rather than conform to any beauty standards. When Deanna Deadly was passing close by, Auxiliary Magazine featured her as the August/September 2013 Issue PinUp. I shot this in my studio with a constructed set to give the impression of a location without too much distraction. Must for Auxiliary Magazine
For the December/January 2013/2014 Issue of Auxiliary Magazine I shot the fashion section’s Must feature. The concept behind this feature is to highlight a must-have item for the season within the world of alternative culture and subculture. This time the must-have was a chunky knit hat and scarf from Toronto designer scarffaces. I acted as photographer and creative director and we had a great team for the shoot including model Dannielle Bradford, makeup artist and hair stylist Theresa Jahmi, and fashion stylist Shannon Kramp. I always enjoy shooting this feature as the goal is to get just one great shot that has to show off the featured fashion item, have a clean background for layout, set the right tone for the season, and give a hint of a story.
