This Sheer Terror Style feature for Auxiliary Magazine’s Spring 2016 Issue was a little bit different than past ones I have shot. I have been shooting the Style feature for the last few issues of Auxiliary and this time around we decided to go with photos where the model is smiling. Not very common in fashion photography where things tend to be more serious but the detail upper body shots for this feature allow for some playfulness. The focus of this Style feature is sheer clothing and the overall styling had a faint 90s vibe that really paired well with smiling and laughing photos.

Auxiliary Magazine Fashion Editor Shannon Kramp styled this feature. We cast a friend of hers as the model as she is always on the look out for fresh faces and fun people to photograph. Model Autumn Nuzum didn’t have a ton of experience but she was easy to work with and that made it a very successful shoot! We were having a lot of fun and I captured so many playful photos.

Sheer clothing is very popular right now but it can prove difficult to wear sometimes. One focus of this Style feature was solutions on how to wear sheer clothing. Layer it and layer it well! I particularly like the idea in the feature of wearing a throwback fishnet shirt over a trendy strapy crop top. Sheer pieces can add a lot of texture and visual interest especially in this case where all the clothing is black in accordance of the terror aspect of this Style feature.

To complete our team, makeup artist Elizabeth Rhodes traveled in from Rochester with hair stylist Carly Kostiw. The hairstyles in this feature are a lot of fun and pair well with the tone of the photos. A teased out side style, a big messy bun, and the most fun of all, two little buns and a zigzag part!
